WordPress For A CMS System

Comments 3 Comments »

cms-system.jpgA while ago I wrote an article on how to build a standard wordpress website and since then I have researched the internet more deeply on the subject.

In my article “How To Create A Regular Website With WordPress“, I was trying to give some general ideas on how to make your blog look like a “normal” website. But you don’t necessarily have to re-invent the wheel, I found a few themes / plugins and articles that could be just what you need if you are interested in using WordPress as a Content Management System :

Semiologic system comes in 2 versions : standard (free) and pro (not free). I installed the free Semiologic yesterday and it does a great job of giving the look and feel of a regular website. I would love to get the pro version since it has a great number of cool features… I will have to wait on that : I find it a bit pricey.

Anybody used Semiologic or the Jelly Theme ?

Back Scratch?

Comments No Comments »

Oh yeah! That feels good right there, up a little bit, to the right, no the other right, up one inch, one inch more, right there, a little harder, there you go! Great, thanks!

scratch-back.jpg

The satisfaction of having an itch scratched; it’s one of the great pleasures in life. If only everyone had this opportunity available to them maybe the world would be a different place. The first challenge, for most of us, is getting someone in our life who happily responds to the request “Can you scratch my back for a second?” I say happily responds but let’s be realistic, begrudgingly responds is good enough. So if you have that person in your life I say Congratulations! Well done! Enjoy it and take advantage of every back scratching possibility that arises.

Maybe you’ve noticed that I’ve added the “Are You In My TopSpots?” widget from scratchback.com on my blog (just look on your right).

This is how you could scratch my back

If you enjoy my blog and want to “scratch my back” in support of what I’m doing, or if you are just a link seeker, you click on the Get In My Top Spots link and purchase a spot. In return a link to your website will appear in the widget which is available site wide.

Is there anyone out there who thinks I deserve a little back scratch? Here, I’ll turn around, it itches there in the middle, between my shoulder blades.

My first Ustream session

Comments 2 Comments »

This evening I have had my first experience with Ustream and I enjoyed it very much. Ustream TV is basically a chat system where you get to see and hear the owner of the channel.

I was lucky to access the channel of David from xfep.com. David recently discovered Ustream and does a superb job in answering questions that are asked on the chat. I recommend visiting his Ustream channel if you want to have fun and learn.

David will be reachable LIVE from 6-8 pm eastern time this week except wednesday : Happy Birthday David !

Other “famous” bloggers are starting to use the tv streaming media: you can visit Mark from 45n5.com on his we make money online channel, Darren also having fun with on the problogger ustream channel.

What Did David Say About This Blog

I asked David about my blog and he did mention more positive points of fabnetrevenue.com than bad points. So that was good to hear.

Particularly he noticed the way I use the “What Would Seth Godin Do” WordPress plugin at the bottom of each post and the good amount of content I have so far. According to him I seem to be doing well : Motivating :) !

On a negative note, he recommended to do a bit of cleaning : too much clutter in the right columns. I will remove a few things. Thanks for your review David.

Have you tried Ustream tv yet ? Did you enjoy it ? Blogging goes beyond writting that’s for sure…

Get A Free Link For A Motivational Article

Comments 1 Comment »

I added a “Motivational Posters” page a few days ago, and to accompany this, I would like to gather a list of articles on the topic “Blogging Motivation” or closely related. That list would become a sort of reference list for myself and for people in need of a little help in staying motivated on their internet adventure.

I need your participation in the gathering process.

Some bloggers already did something similar on different topics (among others Fred from newestonthenet.com, Mohsin from Blogging Bits, Court from http://courtneytuttle.com/). I am fairly new to blogging and this will be my first experience relying in people’s feedback to create a post.

How That Works

  • Search the Blogosphere for article(s) that you enjoyed on the subject : “motivation & blogging” or closely related topic.
  • It can be article(s) you wrote, that you are going to write or article(s) of other bloggers.
  • Leave a comment on this post with the links to the article(s) [up to 3 max] you decided to share.
  • Along with the article(s), answer the question : “What is your personal number one motivation for blogging?” (one sentence max).
  • Pass the word around about this quest for motivational articles.

Follow This Format When You Comment (example) :

URL Article1: http://www.myblog.com/article1/
URL Article2: http://www.otherblog.com/article2/
URL Article3: http://www.herblog.com/article3/
Anchor Text For Your BackLink: That would be the text of my link
URL for the backlink: http://www.myblog.com/thelinkwouldpointhere/

My number one motivation for blogging is : What is it?

The Deadline

Please submit your article(s) by the 30th of November.

You Get

When contributing to this “motivational article gathering“, you will get a link back to your blog or website. This will happen when I compile all the articles and publish a post with the list of all articles that have been submitted.

Also, you will help a fellow blogger who is just starting out to gain some confidence in this blogging adventure. Getting readers and participants on my blog really gets me going ;). Your participation on this mini-project will bring my readers and myself a lot of motivation to continue making the best of our blogs.

As well, one participant will be selected (it will be random selection) and will win one month of free advertising on FabNet Revenue. I hear you saying wow ! ;)

That’s It

Happy blogging everyone. Hope to read you soon in the comment section of this post (or other posts of my blog if you want as well - why not?).

Thanks.

This affiliate commission made my day!

Comments 2 Comments »

Yesterday I received a check of $104. This money is actually coming from the AllPosters affiliate program, and I feel lucky since I have affiliate links to AllPosters only on one page of a very very low traffic website.

Receiving this money was a nice surprise! Quickly after getting this check, I went to visit the AllPosters affiliate program page and was pleased to see that they offer 25% to 30% commission rates.

Blogging Freedom
All that inspired me to create the “special” page that you can now reach from the menu of my blog and which is called motivational posters. When visiting the AllPosters website, some very beautiful posters have drawn my attention and I wanted to share them with You, readers of my blog (thanks for being here by the way).

Enjoy! …and tell me how you find these posters ?

Two Products Launch @ The Next Internet Millionaire

Comments 3 Comments »

Jaime Luchuck and Charles Trippy are the 2 finalists of The Next Internet Millionaire. In episode 12, we finally get to discover which one of the contestants will do a joint venture (JV) with Joel Comm.

Episode 12 of the Next Internet Millionaire:

Jaime’s and Charles’ Products:

Each one of the contestants get to launch a product, as you probably already know if you just watched the video. And the official launch date was set to be today (Nov. 7th). Following is a brief description of what Jaime and Charles have created.

Jaime Luchuck decided to launch her own book:
From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire“.
She already had the idea of writing a book before being a part of the internet millionaire reality show, and this unique internet challenge really inspired her to share what she learned there in a book.

Viral Video Fever

Charles Trippy decided to create a viral video tutorial:
Viral Video Fever“.
Already quite successful in the video making niche, Charles decide to take it to another level. Viral Video Fever is a DVD in which he teaches how to make videos, take it viral using social networking [web 2.0] and profit from them.

I really enjoyed the Next Internet Millionaire show so far. I am curious to see how big the sales are going to be for both contestants. It will be interesting to watch the evolution of Jaime’s book amazon rank over the next days and weeks. I think her book will go far.

What’s your bet?
Which one of the contestant do you think will make the most sales?

Chitika Linx Goes Within Content

Comments No Comments »

chitika-linx.jpg

Chitika just launched a new type of money making ad today. The name is Linx and it’s very similar to Kontera program as far as I understand.

Linx will spot keywords in your content and double underline them. Hovering with the mouse will display an ad similar to the iPod Nano image on the side of this post. This program is a Pay Per Click (PPC) which means that clicks on the ads will get you cash.

It will be interesting to test these “linx content links” and see what kind of earnings per click they trigger.

Some people consider these in content ads to be intrusive and to reduce the quality of their blog. Some others don’t mind a few ads of this kind. What about you? Will you try Chitika Linx on your blog ?

Google Smart Pricing

Comments 1 Comment »

Very recently, my revenue from Google Adsense (from different websites) dropped significantly : from $0.xx per click to $0.0x per click…

I researched a bit about cases like this and I thought you might be interested.

I think I have been “smart priced”

What this means is that one of my websites has had a very bad conversion, and therefore Google decided to lower ads pricing per click for this website. Unfortunately, when smart pricing happens, it’s known to affect an entire Adsense account, reducing the revenue of all the websites under the account.

I am not 100% sure that it is what happened with my sites but that could well be a case of smart pricing since I launched a new website recently that has very low CPM (Cost Per-Thousand impressions) and my earning per clicks dropped for all my websites, not just one.

I decided to remove google ads from my websites with extra low CPM. I am now anxious to know if that will help. Probably a 2 or 3 days wait, before any results…

Learning From This Experience

A lot of internet marketers will tell you to wait for decent traffic before trying to monetize. I really did not listen to this advice, and always thought that ads being part of the design I might as well add them from the very beginning.

I now understand that with Adsense, it’s really important to make sure the ads are going to convert correctly if placed on a website. Don’t know yet how to guarantee that though :( !

Also I have the habit of working (coding / designing) on my websites directly online, not using an editor and seeing the result directly by typing the website url. It is not advised to do that since it very affects the CPM, the CTR (Click Through Rate) and could lead to a significant loss of revenue. I am learning from my mistakes…

I hope this piece of information can be useful for you. You are very welcome to comment if you have additional information or related experience to share. Thank you.

Update : Seems to be getting back to normal now :) .

My Google Notebook Review

Comments 2 Comments »

After reading quite a few blogs recommending the use of Google Notebook, I decided to give it a try for myself.
I have been using post-its for several months now but I am beginning to realize that when they start to accumulate ( which they will if you’re doing any work at all ) they just make my surroundings a big mess.

So I started to try Google Notebook a week ago. I organized it so that it will be able to handle my different activities.

My Google Notebook is structured like this :
- A section for this blog : containing 4 sub-category which are articles ideas, things to do, to check out (urls), idea box.
- A section for my others websites : content ideas, technical stuff.
- A section for my 9-5 job : tasks to complete, to do.
- A section for my other activities : to buy, to pay, temp. phones numbers.

So far so good. I really like using this Google application. Creating sections and sub-sections is quite easy. And it’s available from every computer which is not at all the case with bookmarks and the little squared sticky notes ;).

I also downloaded the Google Notebook browser extension which adds the possibility to add notes while you surf the web (versions exist for Firefox and Internet Explorer).

Here is what it looks like while I am typing this post :

googlenotebook.jpg

As you can see in the photo, the notebook link is directly on the browser bar, which makes it very accessible.

For the sake of linklove, here are some articles about Google Notebook ;) :

Thanks for describing recommending this tool.

And you, what do you think of Google Notebook ?
